13-year-old Usha from Jharkhand, trafficked to Bangalore by a placement agency, was forced into domestic servitude. Her employers were abusive and made her work day and night without rest.
Intervention
One of our union members noticed her situation and reported it to the outreach worker. A rescue was organized in collaboration with Childline, and Usha was placed in a fit facility through the Child Welfare Committee. With support from the union, she decided to pursue legal action and was guided through the process.
Change
Usha not only won the case and received compensation, but her efforts also led to the High Court issuing detailed guidelines on preventing labour trafficking. This helped union members realize that our work extends beyond workers’ rights to protecting the lives and futures of vulnerable children.
